Wirral has suffered five more coronavirus hospital deaths, NHS England has confirmed.

The spike in fatalities, which all occurred on different days - May 21, 22, 24, 25 and 26 - takes the number of patients who have died with Covid-19 in Wirral NHS hospitals to 211.

A further 185 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 26,234.

Patients were aged between 28 and 99 years old.  Five of the 185 patients (aged 65 and 96) had no known underlying health condition.  

Their families have been informed.

Regionally, the North West was by far the worst-hit area today, accounting for 50 deaths - more than twice the amount of any other area of the country apart from the Midlands, which had 32.
