MARY GREAVES lockdown 101st birthday this week was very different from her centenary.
Last year the lifelong Blackburn resident opened her telegram from The Queen with four generations of her family gathered round her at Kingsway on Greenhurst Place.
This year she stood at her window, glass in hand and helium balloons floating outside, to wave at them on the ground below.
Her eldest son Stanley said: "Celebrations were difficult to implement during lockdown.
"Her birthday was peppered by video-conferencing and phone calls.
"Our family are impressed by the way, at 101 years old, she has mastered video conferencing.
"She enjoyed a socially-distanced toast and rendition of ‘Happy Birthday Dear Mary’. There could be no birthday hugs this year."
