A BOROUGH is winding down its coronavirus emergency food deliveries as it prepares to close it's temporary provisions warehouse at the end of next month.

Blackburn with Darwen Council's Help Hub has delivered more than 15,000 meal parcels to more than 1,800 vulnerable and isolated households over two months since the Covid-19 lockdown started.

It is now working closely with partners and local supermarkets to ensure no one goes hungry when its temporary food warehouse closes at the end of June.

Until then the Help Hub will gradually decrease the scale of its food it deliveries.

Sayyed Osman, borough adult services director, said: “This was always intended to be a short term solution. The temporary lease on the warehouse will run out at the end of June.

“While we’ll continue to deliver to households that have no one else to support them until the end of June, we need to plan for the future. The council’s Help Hub team will put people in touch with organisations which can support them."

Cllr Mohammed Khan, leader of the council, said: “We don’t want anyone to worry about accessing food. The Help Hub team is working very hard with some fantastic local partners to make arrangements for people to continue to receive support getting the supplies they need, as well as help and advice on finances, wellbeing and mental health."
