A TOTAL of 837 people have now died in Lancashire’s hospitals after testing positive for the coronavirus.

The latest figures published by NHS England show two new deaths have been registered by trusts across the county in the last 24 hours.

All of these deaths are recorded at the date of death rather than the date the death was announced.

East Lancashire Hospitals Trust, which operates the Royal Blackburn and Burnley General hospitals, reported no new deaths for the second day in a row, and has remained at a toll of 177.

One new death was reported by Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which now has a total death toll of 174.

There was one death reported by Southport and Ormskirk NHS Foundation Trust, a total of 135.

Meanwhile the hospitals run by Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, which operates the Royal Preston Hospital, reported no new deaths, taking its total to 192, but remains the Trust with the highest total number of deaths.

University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust has remained at a total of 159, with no new deaths reported.

Across England, a further 59 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died taking the total to 25,751.
