A ONCE popular East End bakery will be turned into a take-away restaurant after city planners gave the project the green light.

McPhies craft bakers on Shettleston Road suddenly closed after operating in the area for many years.

A planning application to turn the premises into a take-away restaurant has now been approved subject to conditions despite objections from neighbours.

We previously reported that those living near the premises were concerned about noise.

In a decision notice planners said: “The use of the class 3 restaurant shall be restricted to 10 am to 11 pm Sunday to Thursday, and 10 am to midnight Friday and Saturday. For the avoidance of any doubt any hot food takeaway service will be ancillary to the class 3 restaurant.”

The decision regarding operating hours was taken to protect the occupiers of dwellings or noise sensitive buildings from excessive noise.
