WANDERERS are unlikely to get a say in the future of League One until the end of the week.
It is understood the EFL will have a board meeting tomorrow, after which they hope to have compiled a shortlist of possible outcomes that clubs will be able to vote upon.
It is widely thought that the option of declaring the season ‘null and void’ at this stage is remote, and so Wanderers will be facing relegation to League Two regardless of which scenario is adopted.
The sticking point among clubs is how best to decide league placings, and in particular the promotion and play-off positions.
Peterborough – who stand to miss out on the top six if a straight points-per-game formula is used to decide positions – are lobbying for eight clubs to be involved in the play-offs.
“Promotions will be granted,” claims Posh director of football and former Wanderer, Barry Fry. “There will be play-offs, but as yet the League One clubs can’t agree on the way forward.
“The EFL board are meeting on Wednesday. They will then present the possible scenarios and we will then vote, probably on Friday."
