A LONG-established company set up in the founder's living room has moved into a new £1million factory on the other side of its home town.

Peter Scott Printers, or PSP, started in Burnley in the 1960 before moving to Darley Street near the football club's Turf Moor ground and then expanding into premises on the Billington Road Industrial Estate.

Now they have moved again to a factory bought for £1.1m a few years ago and leased to French aerospace company Safran Nacelles.

The firm has invested another £200,000 in new computer-to-plate tech to reduce their carbon footprint after selling their previous premises.

It has spent the last three weeks moving to the factory in the Heasandford Industrial Estate on the other side of Burnley near Safran and Boo-Hoo to cope with rising demand for their products.

It is now looking to add apprentices to its 27 employees.

Joanne Hindley, PSP's commercial director, said: "We expected challenging times, planned to close up shop and then there was a cry for help.

"We have seen demand for items such as essential signposting for local authorities, social distancing signs for supermarkets, products for food chains and labels for manufacturers, mainly bakeware products as people are spending more time in the kitchen!

"Many businesses have diversified their offering to stay afloat or closed business. Here at Peter Scott Printers we are doing more of what we have done for over 60 years – being the one-stop shop for all print material locally and nationally.

"In these difficult times we have managed to not turn down a single order and have done everything we can to keep our workforce in jobs. We want to play a part in getting Britain moving again”

Cllr Gordon Birtwistle, Burnley council's economic development boss, said: "It is a great company. It's fantastic to see a local business growing and prospering in these difficult times. I hope it does well in its new home."

The firm engaged with experts AMRC North-West to help with the move and streamline its operations.

Nick Hall from the consultants said: “PSP is a wonderful innovative business with a great history. It was a pleasure being able to work with their team."
