A BABY Shark plush toy which plays music and lights up has been recalled as it poses a risk to children's safety.

The Chartered Institute of Trading Standards have posted the news about the toy on their website saying it could cause choking hazards and dangers over chemicals.

The soft blue baby shark product was made in China and was being sold online via Amazon and an urgent announcement has been made to return it if you have bought it.

The statement said: "The toy's foam filling is easily accessible, while its battery box can be easily opened, generating small parts and leaving button batteries accessible.

"A small child may put in its mouth the small parts and choke on them, or the button batteries, which could cause damage to the child's gastrointestinal tract or choking.

"The product does not comply with the requirements of the Toy Safety Directive and the relevant European standard EN 71-1."
