POLICE have seized a Range Rover after it was seen being driven at significant speed on the roads of East Lancashire this morning.

Having initially been spotted by police being driven anti-socially in Waterfoot the vehicle was eventually stopped and seized in Bacup.

Police said the driver of the vehicle had potentially put other people's lives at risk and promised further action against irresponsible drivers.

A police spokesman posted on social media: "Yet another vehicle has been taken off the streets of Rossendale.

"The vehicle was initially seen on Bacup Road, Waterfoot, travelling at significant speed in an extremely anti-social manner.

"The vehicle was eventually found in the Bacup area and recovered using powers under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act.

"We will continue to target vehicles driving or acting in an anti-social manner, potentially putting your lives at risk. Thanks to the majority of motorists driving responsibly."

Section 59 allows the police to give drivers a warning if they are reported to have used their vehicle in a manner which causes "alarm, distress or annoyance". If reported to have done so again within a year the police have the right to confiscate the vehicle.
