A WEDDING singer is giving his neighbours a free garden concert every Sunday as a way to ease the lockdown blues.

Arthur Geldard live streams himself singing a collection of jazz song from his own front garden on Waddington Road in Clitheroe.

He dresses up to the nines, with his fiancée Holly sitting with their four-month-daughter Opal as neighbours take to their gardens to watch at 5pm.

And the videos have amassed thousands of likes and shares since April 5.

Mr Geldard said: “The reaction to it has been incredible and people as far as Hong Kong, LA, Spain and Egypt have been watching the live streams.

“I did not expect it to get to that level at all.

“We saw news reports of people doing workouts from their homes and thought how could we help?

“I have not gigged in a while as usually I am a wedding singer, so I thought it would be nice to sing again and do something for our street.”

There were 50,000 views online the first time and the singer even received little thank you notes through his letterbox.

He said: “There is a 95-year-old lady on our street who opens her window and listens in with a glass of wine while requesting a Frank Sinatra song.

“It is nice to get to know everyone really well because it can be hard to get to know them usually.

“There was a fire engine that stopped to give me the thumbs up before driving off again, so there is a real community feel.”

The jazz singer said: “Music is a powerful tool which can bring people together when we cannot all physically be with each other.”

The jazz singer takes requests, both those sent through Facebook or by writing him a note.

Mr Geldard’s collection of songs can include My Way by Frank Sinatra, Sunny Side Of The Street by Rod Stewart and even a jazz version of Mr Brightside by The Killers. To hear him sing follow Facebook page Arthur Geldard Music.
