WAS Elvis Presley’s Cadillac alive and well and living in Mill Hill?

This was the question back in 2002 when a major international investigation was launched to trace the history of the 20-foot long pink and white monster.

The car was owned by by car collector Ted Lethbridge who had recently retired to Spain leaving John Wallwork to sell off his collection.

Mr Wallwork studied the title deed - the American equivalent of the car’s registration document - which said that one Elvis Aaron Presley was the registered owner of the Cadillac Coupe de Ville in 1961 with his address being listed as Twentieth Century Fox, Hollywood, California.

Elvis had left the army in 1960 and had turned his back on recording to embark on a movie career which saw him starring in films such as Blue Hawaii and his debut, GI Blues.

He was a well-known lover of Cadillacs and would often buy them as gifts for his friends.

Before discovered the title deed, the car had been priced at £15,000 but as John explained: “There has been so much interest generated over the last few days that we have taken the car off the market until we know more.

“We accepted the car as a part exchange against a Ferrari and never paid much attention to the history of the documents. We just knew it was a really attractive classic.

“But now common sense tells us to hold on.

“The former registered owner in the 1980s was Rudolf Mansini - the owner of Queens Hotel, in Blackpool, who collected cars from famous people, so it could be quite exciting.”
