SIX more people have died across East Lancashire due to coronavirus, according to latest statistics.

It means the total has risen by 10 during the course of the weekend.

There have now been 82 people who have died from the virus in Burnley General Hospital and Royal Blackburn Hospital.

The latest daily figures from NHS England show that a total of 70 people also died in units operated by Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, including the Royal Preston Hospital.

Elsewhere, Blackpool Teaching Hospitals have recorded a new total of 80 cases.

Across the North West, there have been a total of 1,997 deaths as a result of Covid-19.

The Department of Health and Social Care posted on their social media that as of 9am today, 482,063 tests have concluded, with 21,626 tests taking place on Saturday. 

A total of 372,967 people have been tested, of which 120,067 tested positive. 

As of 5pm on yesterday, of those hospitalised in the UK who tested positive for coronavirus, 16,060 have sadly died.
