COMEDIAN Peter Kay has paid tribute to a fan of his hit TV show who tragically died after contracting the coronavirus.

The Bolton comic paid tribute to superfan Rob Daly at the end of the BBC iPlayer special of Car Share which went online last week.

At the end of the audio special edition of the show, a message reading ‘in memory of Rob Daly’ was displayed on screen.

It is now understood that Mr Daly was a big fan of the show after a Twitter user stepped in to explain what that message meant to confused listeners.

The Tweet read: "For those wondering, Rob Daly was a massive Car Share fan, very active on twitter supporting the show and fellow fans.

"He sadly died from covid19 recently. Hugely special and thoughtful dedication from Peter, Sian and Paul.”

Both Peter, 46 and his co-star Sian Gibson have since retweeted the message.

The one-off special was uploaded to the BBC iPlayer on Friday with Peter previously saying he hoped it would bring some joy to people during the pandemic.

It was also recently announced that Peter and his pal Paddy McGuinness will be back on screen together very soon for BBC’s Big Night In.

The collaboration between BBC Children In Need and Comic Relief will celebrate the British public’s community spirit and resilience, while offering a programme of light entertainment.

Paddy is today revealed as one of the five hosts for the show alongside Matt Baker, Zoe Ball, Sir Lenny Henry and Davina McCall.

They join Bolton comic Peter as well as Catherine Tate and Gary Barlow, who were previously announced as guests on the charity broadcast.

Money raised will be split equally between the two charities to provide support to local projects and programmes across the UK during the coronavirus pandemic.
