THE Countess of Chester Hospital Trust has recorded the most coronavirus deaths in the county, latest figures reveal.

NHS England data released this afternoon (April 10) shows that, as of 5pm yesterday, the trust – which covers both the Countess of Chester Hospital and Ellesmere Port Hospital sites – has recorded a total of 38 deaths.

That represents an increase of five deaths over a 24-hour period.

The figures also show that a total of 17 people who tested positive for the virus have died this week alone.

The death toll in Cheshire now stands at 124 – an increase of 21 in the space of a day – with Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust recording the second highest number of deaths with 36.

The figure recorded by Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has risen to 29, while East Cheshire NHS Trust has now recorded 21 deaths.

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the county is 905, of which the most are in Cheshire West and Chester where 289 have been reported.

Cheshire East has 257 confirmed cases, while Warrington has 211 and Halton has 148.

Across England, a further 866 people who tested positive for coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals to 8,114.

Patients were aged between 27 and 100 years-old. A total of 56 of the 866 patients were aged between 40 and 93 years-old, and had no known underlying health condition.
