A Chinook helicopter was seen flying in the skies above Bolton this morning.
The military aircraft was spotted over the town at around 10.30am by resident Steven Kearsley, who posted an image (main picture) in the I Belong to Bolton Facebook group.
Within minutes dozens of other residents said they also spotted the helicopter over Astley Bridge, Farnworth and Bromley Cross.
Aaron Peake took this picture of the aircraft in the skies over Bolton.
It is understood the aircraft was called to provide assistance to the NHS effort to combat coronavirus. Chinook helicopters are used for heavy-lifting and transportation by the armed forces. Earlier in the week one was seen over Prestwich and Swinton as it flew into City Airport.
In an Instagram post, the airport said: "Whilst we remain closed for normal operations, we are pleased to continue to provide essential support to our Emergency Services, Military and other essential flights."
