EARLIER this week, Penarth Coastguard and Barry RNLI rescued four people who had been cut off by the tide on Sully Island.

They say this is the third such incident since the government lockdown came into force.

In a statement on Facebook, the Penarth Coastguard team wrote: “The government has been clear that during this coronavirus pandemic we need to #StayHomeSaveLives.

“Despite that, we’ve had three incidents of people cut off on Sully Island since lockdown.”

“The inshore lifeboat with three crew on-board launched at 4pm today.

“The four people were returned to the shore and handed over to a local coastguard team and the police.

“The volunteer lifeboat crew are putting their lives at risk responding to people who are not listening to the government advice.”

The government lockdown came into force on March 23.
