Police across the borough have been keeping especially busy recently, mainly arresting drivers out in cars with their friends, smoking cannabis.

Officers in Blackburn seized a vehicle and arrested one person on Tuesday night after they were caught going for a drive in the town centre with their mates.

A spokesperson for the police said: "Whilst under Covid-19 regulations, please remember, going out for a drive with your friends is not acceptable.

"Especially when you have no insurance, you're under the influence of an illegal substance and you have cannabis in your pocket.

"Car seized and one arrested by your town centre neighbourhood team."

The incident comes just two days after a man was arrested for parking up at a Blackburn supermarket in his girlfriend's car having cannabis in his system.

Officers arrested the man on the Aldi and Iceland carpark on Bolton Road on Sunday after it turned out he only had a provisional driving licence and no insurance.

A post on the Blackburn with Darwen Neighbourhood Policing Team page read: "Popping to the shops for essential groceries is allowed.

"Borrowing your girlfriend's car to do it in with no insurance and a provisional licence after having smoked cannabis is not.

"One more in custody for the sergeant."
