VINTAGE photographs showing Blackburn’s famous Thwaites Brewery have featured on a recent historical television programme.

The photographs, shown on Tuesday 24th March’s episode of Scrap Kings on the digital channel Discovery Quest, bring to life the old Thwaites Brewery near the centre of Blackburn.

The episode had focused on the demolition of the old building and the pictures are drawn from the Talbot Archive project which is run in partnership with Blackburn College and aims to document the town’s social history.

Talbot Archive Project Director Peter Graham, who appeared in the programme, said: “I was approached a few months ago by Production Manager at back2back Productions Ltd, Kate Cloke.

“They make Scrap Kings and were interested in our photos that showed the Thwaites Brewery in its heyday.”

“We are always happy to source photography where appropriate.

“The Project is gaining national recognition, which in turn promotes Blackburn College.”

This is the second time photographs from the archive have featured on national television in recent months.

In February of this year a photograph of well-known Blackburn market shrimp seller Margaret Ann Bond taken in 1953 was shown on the BBC’s Flog It!

The programme helped to reunite the picture with granddaughter Helen Bond, who had not seen it in 70 years.
