BLACKBURN with Darwen Council has shut the doors if its three remaining open buildings to the public.

The 'difficult' decision was taken to protect staff and residents.

Blackburn Town Hall, Darwen Town and 10 Duke Street closed today.

But it has assured people staff will still be hard at work either at home or in their offices.

A council spokesman said: "We have taken the difficult decision to close all council buildings to the public.

"However, we are still here for you and still to help.

"Protecting the health of all our residents and staff, especially those who are vulnerable, during the coronavirus outbreak is crucially important .

"We’re working tirelessly behind closed doors to make sure our essential services continue to run with our priority being to support those who need us most.

"We are keeping the situation under review."
