Officers for Greater Manchester Police have received personal protective equipment (PPE) to help protect themselves from coronavirus.

The force have supplied kits including surgical masks, gloves, aprons, and hazardous waste bags.

These items are intended to allow officers to continue their duties whilst minimising the risk of catching COVID-19.

PPE kits are meant to be used once, with all items incinerated after use.

GMP shared the information on Twitter, alongside photos of chief constable Ian Hopkins packing up a kit.

The post read: "PPE kits have been distributed to officers across Greater Manchester, ensuring they can continue to serve the public while protecting themselves against the potential transmission of #COVID-19.

"The single use kits include a surgical mask, gloves, apron and hazardous waste bag."
