A house that has been at the centre of serious nuisance and disorder, has been closed down by police.

On Tuesday afternoon, Blackburn Magistrates granted an anti-social behaviour closure order after hearing how police and council community safety teams had been receiving repeat complaints from residents and landlords about anti-social behaviour at the address on Johnston Street.

A spokesperson for the police said: "The local neighbourhood policing team and Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council provided the court with evidence of incidents occurring at the address so they could secure the closure order.

"The court was also presented with a number of witness statements from landlords of neighbouring properties."

As a result, the court ordered that the address be closed for twelve weeks, during which time anyone found entering the property will be arrested and could face a fine or imprisonment.

According to the police, the occupant of the house has now found alternate accommodation and the property has been boarded up, with the details of the closure order posted on its door.

Sergeant Jonathan Cisco of the Community Safety Team said: "The occupants of this address have been given numerous opportunities to curb their behaviour, however have failed to do so.

"This will hopefully show that antisocial behaviour within the community will not be tolerated, and Lancashire police are keen to work with residents and other partner agencies in securing action such as this."
