STUDENTS from a Blackburn school have taken home prizes for their work after entering a creative writing competition as part of the Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) project.
Schoolgirls from Pleckgate High School attended the awards ceremony at the National Railway Museum in York, organised by Community Rail Lancashire.
After entering the competition, Sunna Abaid, Nayyab Butt, Katie Greenlees and Saara Shaikh are among a group of finalists who will have their work published in a booklet celebrating and encouraging women into STEM careers within the rail industry.
Thousands of copies will be sent to schools and public buildings across the region, as well as rail operators, Network Rail and the Department for Transport.
The competition aims to encourage young women from a wide range of backgrounds to consider careers in rail and use their opinions to inform and shape the future of the industry.
