LANCASHIRE County Council's home library service has been suspended until further notice due to the coronavirus outbreak.

But the authority's Talkzone service has been opened up to families.

The county council had hoped that the home library service, which allows books to be delivered to people in their homes, could continue but made the decision to suspend it following national advice to limit contact between people.

But its Talkzone service aimed at young people is now offering support, advice and information to families online and over the phone following the closure of most services at neighbourhood centres and youth zones due to Covid-19.

It is now operating extended hours from 8.30am to 10pm each weekday, and from 2pm to 10pm on weekends.

Cllr Shaun Turner, county council health and wellbeing boss, said: "Our neighbourhood centres provide a wide range of support for families, but due to the overwhelming need for everyone to stay at home to reduce the spread of coronavirus we have closed them except for delivery of vital midwifery clinics at some centres.

"We realise how much families rely on the support provided through neighbourhood centres and would ask that they stay in touch with us for any support they need through Talkzone."

People can speak to a Talkzone advisor by calling 0800 511111, text on 07786 511111, email talkzone@lancashire.gov.uk or visit www.facebook.com/LancashireYZ.
