The crash left a gaping hole in the garden wall at the house.

Significant amounts of debris have been left on the pavement following the crash.

One eyewitness described hearing a loud bang.

She said the incident, which happened at around 2am on Thursday. could have been much worse if not for the garden wall.

Describing what she saw, she said: "I was shaking on the phone to the police at 2.30am-ish.

“Thank god the house had a garden brick wall or it could have been so much worse.”

The car was recovered from the scene after police arrived.

The vehicle also appeared to have crashed through a BT broadband cabinet at the roadside, which has been left with significant damage.

Engineers from the telecommunications company were reported to have been at the site hours after the incident to check on it.

The damaged wall area was coned off.

One person who saw the aftermath of the incident said: “Luckily there was a wall there to stop the car going any further towards the house.

“Presumably they are going to have to repair that.

“I wouldn’t want that to have happened to me.”
