A BLACKBURN College student is using art to challenge stigmas around mental health.
Level 3 Art and Design student Lawrence Silcock, who goes by the pen name Lawlife Maledictus, has been creating striking works that graphically illustrate his own mental health experiences.
The 23-year-old from Accrington, who has autism, also creates pieces that are inspired by other peoples’ struggles and has recently curated an exhibition entitled Ending the Stigma: An Exhibition of Artwork Confronting Mental Health and Wellbeing.
Speaking about the importance of support from his college, Lawrence said: “I chose Blackburn College after I moved house and was looking for a place of education to study.
“I have enjoyed absolutely everything about my course, the people I have met, the tutors, everything.”
He added: “The tutors are great, they have helped me every step of the way and coming to the college has helped me become a better artist.
