THE resurfacing of a pothole-pitted section of one of East Lancashire’s most dangerous roads has been put on hold because of the coronavirus crisis.

Earlier this month Oswaldtwistle’s County Councillor Peter Britcliffe and Hyndburn borough's Cllr Glen Harrison led calls for urgent repairs to a short stretch of the Grane Road which runs from the M65 Junction 5 at Guide to the A56 near Haslingden.

They were worried at the state of a few hundred yards of damaged surface on the Elton Road section of the B6232 maintained by Lancashire County Council from the Blackburn with Darwen Borough border to the former Pack Hotel at Belthorn.

The road either side of the potholed few hundreds yards has been recently resurfaced.

This week Cllr Britcliffe contacted Lancashire County Council's highways department to ask: "When are the Grane Rd repairs taking place please?"

Kate Walsh, Hyndburn district lead officer, replied: "Thank you for your email concerning pothole repairs on the Grane Road.

"An order has been raised to repair several potholes along Grane Road. At this time we are unable to advise when these will be repaired, although please be assured as soon as we are able to repair them we will.

"Currently we are dealing with an unprecedented situation, so it is not business as usual. Therefore, we are sorry that we will not be able to handle your enquiry in the normal way, as there is no real and pressing risk to life or welfare."

Cllr Britcliffe said: "I am delighted that the repairs are on order but despairing that they are now understandably delayed due to Coronavirus.

"Let’s hope it’s not too long before things are back to normal."
