A CONVICTED sex offender failed to tell police he had moved address.

Blackburn magistrates heard Stuart David Spiers failed to complete his annual registration in January and officers discovered he had moved in May.

Spiers, 27, of Derby Street, Accrington, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with Sex Offender Register notification requirements. He was sent on bail to Burnley Crown Court to be sentenced.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said Spiers, who was convicted of six offences of sexual activity with children in 2012, had registered as required in January 2019 but not 12 months later.

Police found him living at the Derby Street address.

Gareth Price, defending, said his client had actually moved in with his mother.

"He had not fled the jurisdiction or made it difficult for the police to find him," said Mr Price.

"The offence was down to immaturity rather than anything else."
