AN EAST Lancashire hotel was the setting for an episode of hit comedy series Meet the Richardsons.

The Holiday Inn Express hotel in Pendle Way, Burnley, played host to Lancashire-born comedian Jon Richardson and his co-star and real-life wife Lucy Beaumont as they filmed an episode of their sitcom, in which they play fictionalised versions of themselves.

The pair starred alongside senior hotel manager Katie Peel, who played a receptionist during the couple's stay.

The mum-of-two said: “The filming was great fun - the show is based on their lives, so the director just asked me to be myself, I really did not know what to expect.

“I never thought I was funny before, but I ended up having everyone in stitches.”

Though the episode is set in a London hotel, it made sense for Lancashire-based Second Act Productions, which makes the series, to look to a local venue as a stand-in.

Thanks to the magic of TV production, the hotel proved a natural stand-in for a venue based on the capitals busy North Circular.

Lee Hupfield, of Second Act Productions, said: “The filming went really well at the hotel, the receptionist Katie who took part in the episode is very funny in it; she’s a natural.

“We were made to feel really welcome at the hotel too which made filming really easy.”

Future episodes, in which Jon’s neurotic antics continue to frustrate wife Lucy’s well-laid plans, will future 90s pop star Jason Donovan and chat show host Jonathan Ross.

The Burnley episode is available on catch-up on digital channel Dave.
