SIX fire engines are currently dealing with a barn fire at a farm in Rosemary Lane.

Firefighters from across Greater Manchester are currrently dealing with the incident.

The service has been working through the night and continues to deal with the blaze, pulling hay out of the barn in an attempt to stop the fire.

They are unaware of how the incident started.

A statement from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "On arrival, crew found the barn to be well alight and firefighters are using jets to douse the flames.

"The barn contains a large quantity of hay, and there aren’t thought to be any animals involved.

"A large amount of smoke has discharged from the incident and locals are asked to keep their doors and windows closed.

"It is also important that members of the public avoid the area and allow our firefighters to work."


Area Manager Ben Levy said: "We are dealing with a large fire off the A6, Salford Road near Four Lane Ends, Farnworth.

"We have hose across the road and firefighters are working in the area. Please avoid or drive slowly if you have to pass the scene."

The fire close to the Logistics North estate, is causing congestion both ways on the A6 Salford Rd.

Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) have further advised people to avoid the area.
