COMMUNITY groups in and around a new housing estate in Blackburn can apply for grants of up to £1,000.

The cash awards as part of a new national £30,000 scheme run by housebuilder Kingswood Homes.

The Lancashire-based developer has launched its Community Support Fund as part of its 10th anniversary celebrations this year.

Kingswood is building Green Hills in Blackburn, the award-winning development of 167 homes designed by East Lancashire design guru Wayne Hemingway.

Community groups operating within a ten-mile radius of the estate off Livesey Branch Road in Feniscowles can apply to be considered for a grant.

They need to demonstrate how they make their local area a better place to live.

Paul Jones, managing director of Kingswood Homes, said: “Enhancing local communities is central to what we set out to achieve with all our developments and as part of our anniversary year we want to recognise and reward the great work that is being done by local people.

“We welcome applications from groups including registered charities, educational establishments, children’s sports and activity clubs, elderly support and community help groups.

“Organisations can apply for a grant up to a maximum of £1,000 by simply telling us about the work they do, how they would use any financial contribution and how the community will benefit.

“We can’t wait to hear about some fantastic community work taking place close to our new Green Hills development and look forward to seeing the benefits of the grants.”
