A PRIVATE pregnancy scanning studio has been rated in its first Care Quality Commission inspection since opening.

Lucy Jane’s Baby Scan Studio in Albert Road, Colne, was inspected in January and was given a good rating by inspectors.

The business, run by Lucy Durkin and her sister, Loren Durkin, allows mums to book in an ultrasound appointment and get 2D, 3D and 4D prints of their unborn child.

Lucy, 28, who carries out the scans, has been a midwife for more than five years with the NHS and has delivered almost 100 babies.

The business also allows mothers to find out their baby’s gender at 16 weeks, instead of nearer 20 weeks when scanned on the NHS.

In the report, Ann Ford, deputy chief inspector of hospitals, said: “Staff treated patients with compassion and kindness, respected their privacy and dignity, and took account of their individual needs.

“Staff assessed risks to patients, acted on them and kept records securely.

“Leaders operated effective governance processes throughout the service.

“Leaders supported each other and there was an open culture in the service, focussed on making improvements.”

However, the report did highlight there were no handwashing facilities immediately within the scan room or toilet area; staff and people accessing the service used a nearby kitchen sink for handwashing.

Lucy, from Burnley, who started midwifery training at the University of Manchester in 2010, said: “We have had some great news and are both so extremely proud.

“On the 7th January Lucy Jane’s was inspected by the Care Quality Commission for the first time.

“This is a long and thorough investigation where CQC go through every single part of the business to ensure we are safe and provide a good service.

“As most people know along side running Lucy Jane’s myself and Loren also work other jobs.

“Working seven days a week and the tireless commitment put into Lucy Jane’s has paid off - we have been rated good across the board.

“We hope to continue our high standard of service and improve over the next year and years to come.

“Thank you so much to all of our customers."
