A BLACKBURN business has donated £1,500 to sponsor the founder of a charity for his six-day hike challenge in Romania.

Staff at Renov8, a property maintenance company, say they 'couldn’t help but offer support' after meeting Hugh McCaw, founder of children’s disability charity Children Today.

David Orr, director at Renov8, said: “As a company we like to think we’re more than just maintenance.

“We specialise in delivering property maintenance for properties inhabited by vulnerable and disadvantaged young people and are dedicated to ensuring that tenants have a better quality of life.

“When I met Hugh and heard about his challenge, I couldn’t help but offer our support.”

The hiking challenge in September – named Trek Transylvania – will take a walking group across the landscapes of Bucegi, the Carpathian Mountains and the Piatra Crailui National Park in the famous Transylvania region of the country.

The six-day hike is part of the charity’s 25th anniversary celebrations, with hundreds more being raised so far.

Mr McCaw said: “I am hugely grateful to Renov8 for sponsoring me to take part in the challenge but I’m keen to raise even more.

"Our average grant is £1,000, so it would be great if I could raise enough to help at least two or three children and their families.”

The event takes place from 10 -15 September.
