A SHOP worker was held at knifepoint by a man in Blackburn.

A robber entered Wensley Fold News in Wensley Road at around 8pm on Thursday, March 5, with a large kitchen knife and demanded the shop worker handed over money from the till.

Police said a member of staff activated an alarm, which caused the man with the knife to leave the shop up Saunders Road towards Rawsthorne Street.

DC Vicky Heys said: “Thankfully the would-be thief didn’t get away with any money after the member of staff set off an alarm.

"It must have been a terrifying experience for him and his colleague who were working in the shop at the time.

“We need anyone who knows the person responsible or has any information about the incident to come forward and speak to us.”

The man was described as white, around 5ft 7ins, of slim to medium build and spoke with a "local accent".
