BURNLEY people came together today to honour Britain's war heroes in events to mark Remembrance Sunday.

Hundreds took part in the march from Parker Lane to the Croft Street memorial, for a service led by Canon Tom Bill, Rector of St Peter's Church, Burnley, and chaplain to the Burnley branch of the Royal British Legion.

Mayor of Burnley, Coun Peter McCann, led the Act of Remembrance, along with veterans, Lancashire Police, Burnley Council, the town's air cadets, and scouts.

The Burnley Unity College band played throughout the parade, and during the service.

Coun McCann said after-wards: "I was delighted to see so many people at the service and wearing their poppies with pride.

"Burnley has a long history of honouring its war heroes, and that was continued today, with young and old coming out to take part."

The town's MP Kitty Ussher, who laid a wreath during the service, added: "It is always very humbling to attend the remembrance service in Burnley, and meet the men who fought for us all those years ago.

"Remembrance is also about a whole new generation of soldiers who are fighting for us today.

"There were many young people there, paying tribute to friends and relatives."
