Hundreds of homes have been left without electricity as East Lancashire is hit by power cuts.

Electricity North West were made aware of several power cuts affecting customers in Accrington, Blackburn and Nelson, with the first being reported just before 5pm on Saturday.

Around 45 homes in Accrington and around 33 homes in Nelson have been affected, while reports are suggesting that more than 300 homes have been left without electricity in the Ramsgreave area of Blackburn.

Electricity North West are estimating full power to be restored to homes in Blackburn by around 8pm, while those in Accrington and Nelson can expect their power to be restored before midnight.

A spokesperson for Electricity North West said: "Power cuts during stormy weather conditions are mostly associated with damage to our equipment.

"If you spot any damage this weekend, keep at least five metres away and dial 105 to speak to our team, who will dispatch engineers to make the area safe."
