Traffic attempting to access Riverside Retail Park has also been snaking down Mersey Street and Wilson Patten Street, and clogging up Bridge Foot.

Drivers have been advised to avoid the area as a result.

A Warrington Borough Council spokesman said: “There is heavy traffic in and out of Riverside Retail Park due to the opening of the new B&M store.

“Queues are backed up to Church Street, Sankey Way and Wilson Patten Street.

“We strongly advise drivers to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.”
