A MAN caught in possession of 21 snap bags of cannabis said his supplier had just made him a clearance sale deal.

Blackburn magistrates heard Hamza Anwar and his friend had been offered all that the dealer had left for just £70.

Anwar, 21, of Garbett Street, Accrington, pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis. He was fined £120 with £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said police had tried to block in a silver car in which Anwar was a passenger but the car had driven off and collided with another vehicle before stopping. Anwar got of the passenger side and ran off, discarding a bag which was later found to contain 21 bags of cannabis.

"He was initially interviewed with regard to supplying drugs," said Mrs Yates.

Peter Turner, defending, said the charge went back to March 2019 and had been hanging over his client ever since.

"There were two men in the car and they had visited their cannabis supplier," said Mr Turner. "The dealer had offered to sell them everything he had left and they paid £70 for the 21 wraps."

Mr Turner said his friend was driving the car and they were on their way to get some food when the police attempted to box them in.

"The friend drove away and then shouted at my client to get out of the car," said Mr Turner.

"He threw the bag away as he got out but was detained.

"His friend, who he is still in touch with, has not been charged with anything."
