A MINIATURE railway in East Lancashire is asking for volunteers.

The Thompson Park railway, Burnley, is operated and maintained by volunteers.

Since a group of friends got together in 1990 and decided to form a miniature railway, the attraction has been a big success.

A spokesman said: "Whether selling tickets, replacing sleepers, doing joinery, painting, maintaining plant, machining parts, being a guard, cleaning stock and locomotives, gardening, helping visitors or keeping the railway tidy – all the tasks needed to maintain and operate the railway are carried out by volunteers.

"We always need people who are skilled or adaptable, regardless of age (minimum 16) who can give time (regularly or not) and are willing to learn while enjoying working with others.

"Whatever your background we should be able to find a satisfying and rewarding volunteering opportunity for you – perhaps you too could one day be an engine driver."
