A TEENAGER who smashed up a rival's face after getting the better of him in a fight was today starting a 45-week jail term.
Rhys Holmes, 18, left victim Benjamin O'Neill with horrific fractures after the pair agreed to go down a Burnley back alley and sort out their differences away from CCTV.
Mr O'Neill suffered a broken jaw which needed surgery, a fractured nose and four loosened teeth.
He had been unconscious when the defendant stamped on him, Burnley Crown Court heard.
The defendant did not go quietly when arrested and hit out at a policewoman, catching her a glancing blow.
Holmes, of Patten Street, Colne, admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm and resisting police and had ben committed for sentence by magistrates.
Sentencing, Judge Norman Wright told the defendant the victim was no match for him and he had pummelled him to the ground with a number of blows and then stamped on him.
The judge said the photos of Mr O'Neill's injuries were horrific.
Judge Wright continued: "He was unconscious when you stamped on him.
"What you did was both cowardly and despicable."
