A MAN who beat up his long-term partner was spared immediate jail after she told a court he had never been violent towards her before.
Elaine Florentine went into the witness box at Burnley Crown Court to tell a judge she and Glen Chadwick were still together.
Miss Florentine, who had written a letter to the court, had been attacked after she and the defendant rowed for a couple of hours over a text message he had received from a woman.
Miss Florentine said it was the first time Chadwick had assaulted her.
Chadwick, 49, Cog Lane, Burnley, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm.
He was given 34 weeks in jail, suspended for two years, with the community domestic violence programme and two years supervision.
The judge warned him: "Don't come back."
John Wishart, defending, said the case was different from other domestic violence hearings because there was no indication Chad-wick had not tried to stop Miss Florentine making the complaint.
