BLACKBURN Cathedral Flower Festival has revealed a famous name in the floral world to headline its opening day.

Belgian horticultural architect and designer Tom de Houwer will host a demonstration and create a display at the June event.

The, festival which attracted 10,000 visitors to Blackburn the last time it took place in 2016, will fill the Cathedral with thousands of blooms.

Open to the public from June 18 to 21 with the theme 'Heaven and Earth', it will feature floral displays created by international renowned designers.

Mr de Houwer, celebrated as one of the most talented designers in the world, will mount his display in the Cathedral while his demonstration will be at King George's Hall.

He said: “I am excited to be coming to the Flower Festival in Blackburn. The space and light of the Cathedral is the perfect setting for floral installations and I am thrilled to be creating a unique design based around the sculpture of Christ the Worker by John Hayward."

Craig Bullock, Artistic Director of the Flower Festival, said: “We are thrilled that Tom is coming to Blackburn in June. His demonstrations are an incredible experience and tickets for this unique event are selling quickly."
