AN action packed 'live' youth-led festival is being planned for July this year.

The Festival of Hope, part of West Cheshire Museum’s Hope Street Project, will help celebrate creativity, heritage and youth-empowerment.

The search is on to find young people aged between 19-25 who are interested in becoming part-time youth festival directors to help bring these events to life.

The unpaid role will be fully supported by a professional festival coordinator and will provide invaluable experience to anyone with an interest in history, arts, culture or events management.

To sign up, email hopestreetchester@gmail.com, applications will be welcomed from now until the closing date of March 31, 2020.

The roles of festival director will take about one day a month and involve making key decisions to help put on the Festival of Hope this summer.

These exciting roles will be supported by professional festival organisers, no previous experience is required and travel expenses will be paid. The Festival of Hope 2020 is part of a five-year Hope Street project that seeks to revolutionise the way that museums connect with young people.

Councillor Louise Gittins, leader of the council and cabinet member for wellbeing at Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “The aim of the Festival of Hope is to act as a catalyst to recruit young people to take on leadership roles in museums and arts projects. These part-time directors’ role are an exciting opportunity for anyone who loves the arts and event management to gain new skills and experience that will make them stand out from the crowd when it comes to getting a job. It does not require previous experience - all that is required is enthusiasm, energy and a commitment to get involved. I would encourage anyone who thinks that this might be interesting to get in touch.”

Hope Street is a National Lottery Heritage Fund supported project led by Curious Minds, the Preston-based arts and education organisation, in partnership with Cheshire West Museum Services, Youth Focus North West and Museum Development North West.
