POLICE conducting speed enforcement duties got more than they were looking for when they stopped a car that was going too fast.
Blackburn magistrates heard Jack Andrew Mason tested positive for two drugs, and didn’t have a licence or insurance.
Mason, 25, of Bower Close, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to driving over the limit for cannabis and amphetamine, without insurance and other than in accordance with a licence. He was fined £240 with £85 costs and £32 victim surcharge. He was banned from driving for 12 months.
Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said the police were operating on Whalley New Road, Wilpshire, at 5.50pm when they stopped a Ford Fiesta driven by Mason.
As an officer approached the car she could smell cannabis.
Mason said his passengers had been smoking but then admitted he had smoked some a few hours earlier.
Duncan Nightingale, defending, said his client admitted using cannabis but said he didn’t usually take amphetamines.
