A MOTORIST was forced to drive at knife point after his car was hijacked by two men who told him they were carrying weapons.

The incident allegedly took place between 6 and 6.30pm on Tuesday when two men who were sat in a blue Vauxhall Corsa in Church Street, Blackburn.

Police said the pair were approached by two other men who made threats and demanded money.

One of the offenders claimed to have a knife in his pocket.

The two offenders then allegedly demanded to be driven to Clitheroe and on route instructed the driver to pick up a woman from Blackburn Railway Station.

Police believe the men then made their way down Barbara Castle Way towards Copy Nook before stopping temporarily at the Esso Garage in Accrington Road, Blackburn, before arriving at Clitheroe at approximately 7pm.

Police said they fled near to the Clitheroe Tesco store.

Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.

DC Mark Brennan said: "Before approaching the two men, we believe that the two offenders walked through the Boulevard area of Blackburn asking members of the public for spare change and I appeal to anyone who was approached by either of the two men to contact police.

"I also appeal to anyone who saw the blue Vauxhall Corsa at any stage during its journey to contact us on 0845 1 25 35 45 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

"Clearly this was a serious offence, which left the two young men extremely frightened. Fortunately no one was physically injured but we are keen to speak to any witnesses as soon as possible."

One of the men is described as white, 6ft tall with ginger hair and wearing a blue and white, striped top. The second man was described as white, 5ft 10ins, with short brown hair and was wearing a white top.

A 21-year-old man has been charged in connection with the incident and a 17-year-old man was arrested and bailed pending further enquiries.
