A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was found dead in a house.

Police were called to a home in Fir Trees Avenue in Grange, Preston, and found a woman's body there at around 11pm on Sunday.

Officers have arrested a 26-year-old man from Chesterfield on suspicion of murder this afternoon and he remains in custody.

It comes after police received a concern for welfare report and visited the home on Sunday.

Formal identification has yet to take place, but at this point police believe the body to be of a woman aged in her 20s.

A Home Office post-mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the woman's cause of death.

Ch Insp Pauline Stables said: “First and foremost our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends, who are being supported by specially-trained officers at this incredibly difficult time.

“Our investigation is very much under way and we have this afternoon made an arrest. At this time we believe the victim and the arrested man may have been known to each other.

“We are now urging anybody with information about the woman’s death to get in touch with us as soon as possible on 101, quoting log number 1569 of February 15.”
