BBC’s Flog It will air an episode filmed at Blackburn Cathedral this evening.

Hundreds of people went along to the valuation day which was filmed two years ago, and saw many people waiting outside from 7.30am to get their items valued.

Fans who brought family treasures to the event were given a free appraisal of their items, after which a decision was made whether or not to film the object and send it to Cumbria for auction.

Tonight’s show will feature experts Anita Manning and Charles Hansen, as well as Paul Martin learning about mill workers in Blackburn during the industrial revolution.

Janet Wareing, who was waiting to see expert Phil Serrell, had come from Clayton-le-Moors to get the expert’s opinion on a garden gnome from the 1930s.

She said: “I’ve been here since about 9am and everyone has been chatting away to each other.

“The gnome was given to my mum in 1931.

“I think it’s time for him to go to a gnome retirement home.”

Phil Serrell said the event had been ‘fantastic’.

He said: “You can learn so much about the background of a place by its antiques.

“I have seen some great items and met some wonderful people."

The show will air on BBC2 at 5.15pm and is also available on catch-up.
