DARWEN Aquarists made an exhibition of themselves and came out on top with some prizes from their annual open show.

Taking part in colourful competition with members of a dozen other societies from all over the North of England, the Darwen members entries were water-tight.

More than 400 exhibits of tropical and other rare and unusual fish were entered in the show, which attracted members of the public to Darwen’s library theatre in October 1979.

Show secretary Brian Walsh said: “The show was a success.

“The traders, public, judges, library theatre staff and members of the society made it all possible, and I would like to thank them.”

The successful Darwen members were Mr and Mrs Ashton, third in swordtails, Mr and Mrs Yates, first in the small anabantids, second in large anabantids, second in large charcacins,
