MOTORISTS are warning about the chance of snow on higher ground tonight.

Gritters are expected to be on our road as temperatures could plummet to -1.7c and it is likely to be below zero between 6pm tonight and 6am tomorrow.

Blackburn with Darwen Road team posted on their Facebook page that it is set to get cold tonight.

"Wintry showers this afternoon could bring a little snow above 200m or so, while precipitation tonight is generally likely fall as snow above about 200-250m or so.

"Temporary slushy coverings of 1-2cm are possible above this height, with 3-4cm above 300m or so.

" A few wintry showers may continue to push in from the west this afternoon, potentially bringing a little snow to the highest parts of the network

"The showers should ease tonight, leaving it dry and clear for a time, and allowing road surface temperatures to widely fall below zero, and bringing a risk of icy patches and hoar frost.

"A few showers possible tomorrow morning. Low confidence, with some uncertainty regarding precise snow timings and heights."
