A MAN has been airlifted to hospital after being hit by a bus in Blackburn town centre.

The man has suffered head, back and neck injuries as a result of the incident which happened in Darwen Street at 2.25pm today.

He has been airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital where his condition has been described as serious.

Nobody has been arrested.

Darwen Street is closed off at the junction with Jubilee Street and St Peter Street.

An ambulance service spokesman said: "We were called at 2.25pm to reports of a road traffic collision involving a pedestrian and a bus. We have sent an ambulance, rapid response vehicle and the air ambulance to the scene. A male patient has been airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital."

A police spokesman said: "Due to a serious road traffic collision, Darwen Street at the junction of St Peter Street is closed. Also Jubilee Street heading towards the Railway Station is closed. Please be patient while we conduct our investigation."
