A THIEF got more than he bargained for when he stole a Burnley FC jacket from the concert room of the Railway Club at Rosegrove.

Blackburn magistrates heard the jacket contained £1,500 worth of Love to Shop Park Vouchers.

But Tom Morley was "adamant" it contained £1,500 in cash and not vouchers.

Morley, 26, of Hapton Road, Padiham, pleaded guilty to theft of a jacket and contents together worth £1,640. He was sent to Burnley Crown Court to be sentenced on March 23.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said the owner of the jacket, Anthony Hart was a member of the club and was in on Friday November 15.

He had been introduced to Morley before leaving his jacket on the back of the chair while he went to the dance floor.

Mrs Yates said when CCTV was viewed later it showed Morley deliberately spill his drink on the jacket.

He then took it out of the concert room and eventually out of the club.

"Mr Hart said there were £1,500 worth of Park Vouchers in his jacket when it was stolen," said Mrs Yates.

"He had been saving all year for the vouchers which were to buy Christmas presents with."

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said his client was not sure why the aggrieved had said it was £1,500 worth of vouchers in the jacket.

"He is adamant it was cash and that was something he wasn't expecting," said Mr Taylor.

"It is something he deeply regrets.

"It was a moment of madness when he was in drink."
